Drama
I have acted in plays on various occasions like Premchand Jayanti and Teachers’ Day during the lockdown; I took the extra effort to record the plays online over zoom to keep the spirit of drama alive in those circumstances. My friends call me an influencer - check out a reel that I made for a video-making competition which got over 3000 likes on instagram!
Music
The divine powers of musical notes are aptly summarised by this quote of Pythagoras - “The octave formed a circle and gave our noble earth its form”. While I listen to a song, I make conscious effort to pay close attention to its lyrics and find myself reciting the lyrics of an apt song depending on the situation I am in. This brings me joy – using lyrics in relevant situations to lighten the mood of the surroundings. As a singer, I enjoy doing that – expressing my instinctive emotions in the form of music. I remember seeing my brother upset as he did not win an elocution competition he had been preparing for over a month. When nothing was helping, I sang the lyrics of a song of his favourite singer Kodaline “High hopes, oh, when it all comes to an end. But the world keeps spinning around”. He felt better – and so did I. One day, my friend had lost his mind trying to figure out the extent to which one can be kind in this fast-paced and selfish world. I suddenly remembered the first two lines of Taylor Swift’s song ‘Marjorie’:“Never be so kind, you forget to be clever // Never be so clever, you forget to be kind”. And boom -his conflict seemed to have been solved!
Writing
Writing is also a tool by which people can be influenced for the good. As the Editor of the Hindi Division of the school’s Annual Magazine, I used my influence among juniors and peers to get most article submissions that the Hindi division ever received. I personally mentored and encouraged them to write in Hindi - something that is considered to be a challenge in my school. Surprisingly, the editorial board received more Hindi submissions than English submissions for the very first time! The impact was not large enough - Hindi did not replace English as the comfort writing language of the students. However, the enthusiasm of students showed that the heritage of Hindi is not dead.
